Lightning Squad Organization was never meant to become an organization. It began simply with a coach, a team, and a God-given idea.
In the early days, Coach Daniel Henderson was coaching youth Little League and select teams in Dickinson, Texas. While coaching a fall Little League team called Thunder Baseball, Coach Henderson had a vision: if the kids were having fun playing ball, why not give the parents a chance to have fun too?
Not far from their fields was Big League Dreams Sports Park, which hosted adult slow-pitch softball leagues on Friday nights. Coach Henderson saw an opportunity for families to be connected through the game — parents would play on Fridays, and their kids would compete on Saturdays and Sundays.
That’s when God placed the name Lightning Squad on his heart. It would be Lightning Squad on Fridays and Thunder Baseball on the weekends.
Although the youth program eventually declined as larger select organizations recruited players away, God was not finished with the vision. What looked like a setback was actually a setup for something greater.
As Thunder Baseball faded, interest in the adult softball team grew. Coach Henderson began receiving calls and messages about forming a team. At first, he had no desire to build random adult teams — but he felt God calling him into a new kind of mission field.
On April 14, 2023, Coach Henderson formed his first adult slow-pitch softball team, playing at the very same facility he had envisioned years earlier for the parents of his youth players.
The first season of Lightning Squad was a struggle. Wins were few, and the team faced many challenges. But Coach Henderson’s passion remained strong and steadfast, and season after season, the vision became clearer: God had placed him in a position to use softball as a way to share the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
There were many roadblocks along the way — moments when quitting would have been easier — but Coach Henderson trusted that God had a greater plan. What began as one struggling team became a growing movement rooted in faith, family, and purpose.
Today, Lightning Squad Organization is approaching three years of being an impact in our communities (April 14, 2026). What started as one team has grown into:
Five recreational league teams across the Houston area
Two localized tournament teams
A travel team based in San Antonio, TX — South Texas Thunder
Lightning Squad Organization is now a recognized name throughout Galveston County and continues to expand throughout Texas.
Above all else, Lightning Squad exists because of God.
Coach Henderson says: “I give all Honor and Glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without Him, none of this would be possible.”
We believe softball is a tool — not just for competition, but for building character, unity, and faith. We value: Respect. Sportsmanship. Humility. Integrity. Kindness. And welcoming all who wish to participate.
We are grateful for how far God has brought us, and we trust Him completely for where He is taking us next.
